As of 8:30 am on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, there is no power at North Hardin High School or Meadow View Elementary School. There is a power outage in that area of the county. We are in communication with Nolin RECC regarding the timing of the restoration of power.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Please do not come pick up your child. As soon as power is restored, the instructional day will continue as normal AND state testing will resume. If a student misses state testing, they will have to make that up on one or more of the make-up days.

Many of our students participate in dual-credit programs to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. Traditionally, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) has funded a portion of these courses through state scholarships.
However, Hardin County Schools was recently notified that the new state budget does not include the funding necessary to cover previous scholarship levels. As a result, the number of state-funded courses will decrease for the upcoming school year and potentially the year following. Please refer to the attached graphic for specific details.
We are sharing this update with all current high schoolers and our 7th and 8th-grade families to help with long-term planning. If you have questions, please reach out to your school’s counseling office.

The Hardin County Schools Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is collecting items to brighten the lives of local homebound residents and those in long-term care facilities.
A collection bin has been placed at each school in the district. Students, staff, families, parents and community members are encouraged to bring items that would help bring a smile to senior citizens. The collection drive will last from April 21 to May 5, 2026. As of 4 pm on Friday, April 17, 2026, the Hardin County Schools website is experiencing the same technical difficulties that are affecting all Kentucky school district websites.

REMINDER - Spring Break is next week (April 6 - 10, 2026). All schools are closed these days. District offices are open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They are closed on Thursday and Friday.

As you've probably heard, the Hardin County community will gather to honor the life and service of SSGT Benjamin Pennington this afternoon along roadways as he comes home.
Because the funeral procession may temporarily impact traffic across the county, some afternoon bus routes may experience slight delays. The Hardin County Board of Education voted to amend the 2025-26 school calendar at its meeting this evening. The last day of school for K-12 students is May 21, 2026.
REMINDER - Friday, March 13, 2026, is a MAKE-UP DAY! School will be in session! It was an "off" day on the school calendar at the beginning of the school year. However, it was also marked as a possible make-up day. Again, school will be in session on Friday, March 13, 2026.

The entire community is invited to attend the Hardin County Schools Harlem Renaissance Showcase on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Bluegrass Middle School. It starts at 5:30 pm.
All HCS middle schools will participate. Schools will present their projects, creativity, and research inspired by this influential cultural movement.
Students have explored the art, literature, music, and history of the Harlem Renaissance while creating museum-style exhibits that highlight important artists, themes and contributions from the era. This showcase is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student voice, academic growth and the rich cultural legacy of the Harlem Renaissance.

At approximately 1:40 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Hardin County Schools was contacted by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office, directing us to place New Highland Elementary School, Bluegrass Middle School, John Hardin High School and the Hardin County Central Office on a soft lockdown. A soft lockdown means that no one enters or exits the building; however, the instructional process could continue.
We were then told that New Highland Elementary could be released as normal with the assistance of law enforcement and that some bus routes would be delayed. We also shared that message with you. Approximately three minutes after we shared that message, we received another call from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office that the individual in question had been apprehended.
The lockdown has been lifted and all routes should deliver students at normal times. There was no danger to the building, our students, or our staff. We did this out of an abundance of caution.
