The entire community is invited to attend the Hardin County Schools Harlem Renaissance Showcase on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Bluegrass Middle School. It starts at 5:30 pm.

All HCS middle schools will participate. Schools will present their projects, creativity, and research inspired by this influential cultural movement.

Students have explored the art, literature, music, and history of the Harlem Renaissance while creating museum-style exhibits that highlight important artists, themes and contributions from the era. This showcase is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student voice, academic growth and the rich cultural legacy of the Harlem Renaissance.

Harlem Renaissance Showcase
At approximately 1:40 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Hardin County Schools was contacted by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office, directing us to place New Highland Elementary School, Bluegrass Middle School, John Hardin High School and the Hardin County Central Office on a soft lockdown. A soft lockdown means that no one enters or exits the building; however, the instructional process could continue.

We were then told that New Highland Elementary could be released as normal with the assistance of law enforcement and that some bus routes would be delayed. We also shared that message with you. Approximately three minutes after we shared that message, we received another call from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office that the individual in question had been apprehended.

The lockdown has been lifted and all routes should deliver students at normal times. There was no danger to the building, our students, or our staff. We did this out of an abundance of caution.

We appreciate everyone’s help, patience and support

Hardin County Schools is proud to honor the district's teachers who bring magic into the classroom every day.

We invite our teachers to nominate a colleague who creates "Vibrant Learning Experiences" that truly resonate with students.

To submit a nomination, visit the Instructional Services page under the HCS-Staff tab (located in the upper-left corner of your desktop login). The process is quick, but the impact is lasting! Please submit your nominations by March 31st to ensure our winners are recognized at the April Board of Education meeting.

Our first nominee is Shawn Robinson, the We Build It Better Teacher at North Middle School.. Learn more about Mr. Robinson here: https://youtu.be/gSbZCcS-T90

Hardin County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Monday, February 9, 2026.

This delay ensures our bus drivers have full visibility to navigate any remaining icy patches safely. While classes and buses are delayed, school buildings will open at their regular time to accommodate parents who need to drop off students early.

The HCS Buildings and Grounds crews have been working around the clock to clear our parking lots and walkways. Beyond the snow removal, they are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our facilities safe and warm during this cold snap. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and 'student-first' drive. Every member of this team is a true #HCSDifferenceMaker!
