Recommendation Letters

For letters of recommendation, you will need to fill out a Senior Fact Sheet or get an Academic Resume to Mr. Adams. You will need to get these in at least 2 weeks before the letter is needed.

2. The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority, high school seniors.

Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university.

To apply, students must be:

  • A high school senior
  • From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American
  • Pell-eligible
  • A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
  • In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) 

 Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
  • Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

3. The Kentucky School Boards Association will award the First Degree Scholarship to four students who will be the first in their immediate family (parents, guardians, siblings) to attend college in the 2020-2021 school year.  Each school district is allowed to nominate one female and one male student for this scholarship. You must have a minimum ACT reading score of 20 to qualify as well.  Applications can be downloaded at First Degree Scholarship , and are due to Mr. Adams by Thursday, October 17, 2019


4. The application for the Coca Cola Scholars program is now open for the class of 2020.  Apply online by October 31, 2019 to be eligible.  Applications can be done at Coca Cola Scholars

7. Kentucky Concrete Association Scholarship

The Kentucky Concrete Association offers the William T. Robertson Scholarship Essay Contest, which awards a $2000 scholarship to the winner. Applications are due by November 4, 2019 and can be found at Kentucky Concrete Association Scholarship.

8. Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills.

Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must:

  • Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership
  • Be enrolled as a high school senior
  • Reside in a community served by Comcast and/or participating NBCUniversal or Telemundo markets. Please enter zip code below to confirm eligibility
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or vocational-technical college in the United States for the entire 2020 – 2021 academic year
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation anticipates awarding over 800 scholarships for the 2020 – 2021 school year. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Furthermore, a select number of awardees will be chosen as recipients of a Founder’s Award. These scholarship winners will receive awards in excess of $2,500.
  • Employees of Comcast Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates, their children and other family members are ineligible to receive an award.
