Health & Family Services

Mrs. Sutton is director and facilitator of the functions and budget of all FRYSC sites and coordinators; school nurse services coordinator with Cumberland Family Medical (Healthy Kids Clinics), United Way of Central Kentucky grant executive, school based therapy services contact, Lincoln Trail District Health Department liaison, Hardin Memorial Hospital contact, Department of Community Based Services liaison, Multi-Disciplinary Model Court Team member, Helping Hand of Hope and Salvation Army contact, Blood Borne Pathogen Program coordinator, 504 Co-compliance officer, and facilitator for a variety of other health related programs including K-CHIP insurance. 

 

• The Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) provides free health insurance for children to qualified families.  For certain income levels, a child must not have other insurance coverage for 6 months before applying for KCHIP.  There are exceptions if the child loses health insurance for reasons you cannot control.  Applications are available at the Family Resource Youth Services Centers and the Hardin County Health Departments.  For more information on income levels, visit the KCHIP web page by clicking here.

 

• School nurses provide a variety of health services to students at several schools through a collaboration between the HCS Board of Education and Cumberland Family Medical (Healthy Kids Clinics). With parental permission, school nurses are available to each HCS child at every elementary, middle and high school. Additionally, Healthy Kids Clinics also provide nurse practitioners for further assessment if needed and parent permission is given. Additionally, dental services, immunizations, flu shots, well-child physical exams, sports physicals, and behavioral health services are provided by Healthy Kids Clinics.

 

• The Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990 created Family Resource Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) as a partnership between the public schools and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to provide assistance to families by eliminating non-cognitive barriers. We help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustments to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.

 

• Family Resource Centers are located within our elementary schools and typically serve children through twelve years of age. Areas which must be addressed are: 
  • Full time child care for 2 and 3 year olds
  • After School Child Care for children age 4-12
  • Families in Training
  • Family Literacy
  • Health Services or Referrals to Health Services

 

• Youth Services Centers which are located in each middle and high school typically serve children over twelve years of age. Areas which must be addressed include:
  • Career Exploration and Development
  • Summer and Part-time Job Development for High School Students
  • Substance Abuse Education and Counseling
  • Family Crisis and Mental Health Counseling
  • Health and Social Services Referrals
