HCS & FUNDING COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROVIDE MEAL FOR ELDERLY/DISABLED/THOSE WITH COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEMS

meals for elderly

Dear Community Groups:

Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help us during the COVID-19 pandemic. Quite honestly, we feel good about the services we are providing to our students. However, we do feel strongly that our elderly are our most vulnerable in the situation.

This is truly an “all-hands-on-deck” ordeal. Our wonderful staff is providing meals to our students at each school location daily through a “drive-thru” service. We will also be providing meals through some satellite locations where we know travel is an obstacle.  We will also deliver to homes when it is necessary.

We already have the foundation for food pickup and delivery in place. We could potentially add a similar service for the elderly and disabled.

How can you and your group help? The United States Department of Agriculture funds our lunch program for students. According to the USDA’s guidelines, we cannot give a free lunch to anyone other than our students. We are required to receive $3 per lunch. We ask your group consider purchasing lunches and delivering them to the elderly while the COVID-19 pandemic is in our midst.

You can pay for those lunches through our Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center website. I know that sounds strange. Here is why we ask that the meals be reimbursed through the PAC’s website: It is already set up to accept money by credit card over the internet.

Go to www.thepac.net and click the “support” tab and then “donate.”

Since you are not purchasing tickets for a PAC performance, the money will have to go in as a donation. In the acknowledgment line, we please type “Elderly Meals” or “Senior Meals.”

Then all funds collected will go to pay for meals for the elderly. If your organization or individual prefers, they can drop a check or cash off at the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center. They have personnel available to accept those funds.

The second way you can help is to sign up the elderly that your organization knows needs a daily meal until April 3. We ask that individuals who either pick up food or need food go to a REVISED web address.  That link is http://bit.ly/hcsseniorcitizenfood1.

I appreciate your efforts in assisting us to provide this service. Please contact me (teresa.morgan@hardin.kyschools.us) or John Wright (john.wright@hardin.kyschools.us) at 270-769-8817 if you have any questions. If you use email, please put “Elderly” in the subject line so we know the importance of the email. We hope to begin this program on Wednesday, March 18 and anticipate going until April 3.
