The North Hardin High School Band has received an invitation to play and march at the National Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2023 in Washington, D.C.
“This is a tremendous honor for our students,” NHHS Director of Bands Kelsey Dunn said. “The North Hardin Band has a legacy of excellence and has played at some impressive venues and events - from Carnegie Hall to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This invitation underscores the importance of our success and recognizes our students’ hard work.”
The National Independence Day Parade takes place on Constitution Avenue in Washington D.C. from 7th to 17th Streets before hundreds of thousands of people. There are invited bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, VIP’s, national dignitaries and celebrity participants. It is co-hosted by the National Park Service and produced by Diversified Events who is under contract to the National Park Service.
Bands are invited based on recommendations from each state’s Governor’s office. Bands also submitted a video recording, photos and other information detailing experience, honors, past adjudication results, festival ratings, etc.
In a letter to Ms. Dunn, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear states, “Your participation in the event illustrates not only your musical ability but also your perseverance and dedication to reaching your goals. The great commitment required from each member of your team is recognized and appreciated – and will be enjoyed by all who watch your performance on Independence Day.”
“We are so thankful to Governor Beshear for selecting our band,” Dunn said. “His recognition of storied history and success means a great deal. We will represent the Commonwealth with professionalism and respect. We hope to make all Kentuckians proud.”
