HCS TO CONTINUE NON-TRADITIONAL INSTRUCTION AT LEAST THROUGH NOVEMBER 24

nti through january for middle and high schools

Per Executive Order of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, Hardin County Schools middle and high students will continue with virtual instruction until at least Monday, January 4, 2021.  Elementary school students will continue virtual instruction until Monday, December 7, 2020.  However, elementary schools cannot return to in-person instruction on December 7 if Hardin County is "in the red" category on the Kentucky Department of Public Health's COVID-19 map.

There is NO SCHOOL for students participating in non-traditional instruction or the HCS Online Learning Academy on Wednesday, November 25, Thursday, November 26 or Friday, November 27 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.  There is also no instruction for students (OLA or NTI) from December 21, 2020 through January 1, 2021 because of winter break.

"The only way for us to have a chance to go back to school is for our community to follow the guidelines," HCS Superintendent Teresa Morgan said.  "We must wear masks in public, keep social distance in public, wash their hands, not attend large gatherings where social distancing cannot be accomplished and follow the guidelines from our public health officials.”

As with non-traditional instruction this school year, students who had been attending school in person are expected to be online with their teachers in Google Meet and Google Classroom on the times set forth by teachers and meet teacher expectations.

“Our students and staff are simply amazing,” Morgan added.  “We all know that traditional face-to-face instruction is the best way to practice the art of teaching and learning.  However, every member of the HCS family has accepted the consequences, rolled up their sleeves and went to work so that students can receive the best instruction possible.  I just cannot say how much I appreciate our team.”

NTI Facts:

  • Schools have shared NTI plans and/or where to find those plans with parents.  There is an “All You Need to Know About HCS NTI 2020-21”.  That can be seen by CLICKING HERE. It is located under the Parents tab at the top of the page. It includes the NTI student/parent portal with a link to each school, procedures on how to access WiFi if it is not available in homes, download assignments and upload completed work and a video from Mrs. Morgan explaining NTI strategies.

  • Each school site will serve as breakfast and lunch pick up sites while students are on NTI.  Meals will be served from 11 am to 1 pm each weekday.  There are also 25 mobile meal pick-up locations around the county.  Those sites and times can be found by CLICKING HERE.  Online Academy students can continue to pick up meals at schools on Wednesdays from 9 am to 10 am.

  • This decision to remain on NTI will not affect HCS Online Academy students

  • Kindergarten through 12th-grade students who have been participating in in-person learning will participate in NTI each day.  There is no A/B hybrid schedule for students on NTI.

  • Preschool Students - Nothing will change with the amount of instructional time for who normally participate in in-person learning.  If they have been attending preschool two days a week, they will participate in NTI two days a week.  If preschool students normally participate in in-person learning four days a week, they will participate in NTI four days a week.

“We encourage parents to keep an open line of communication with their teachers and school staff to let us know what their students need,” Morgan said.
