I am a graduate of the University of Kentucky from which I earned a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Secondary Education. I have taught English for seventeen years in Hardin County and am proud to say I would not want to teach anywhere else; this place is home to me. I co-sponsor the Beta Club and am a member of the school's PBIS committee as we continue to make Central Hardin the best place to work and learn. I earned my National Board Certification in 2008 which is still my most prized professional accomplishment.
Why do I teach? I hope to create responsible citizens in an irresponsible society. Through the education gleaned in my classroom, students might want to make the world a more just, more humane place to live and work. If I achieve my goal as a teacher, my students will one day cast informed, educated votes and become an integral, fulfilled piece of America's work force.
My students are my world from August til May. I enjoy each day and try to live by the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Anyone in my classroom will either be enacted by that mantra or will use their own force to change my viewpoint. We are in this together!
