Matthew Baucum is originally from Paducah, Kentucky. He holds a Educational Specialist Degree in School Administration from The University of The Cumberlands, a Master of Arts degree in trombone performance from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Murray State University. Mr. Baucum is currently in his 22nd year as a public school educator and has been serving as an Assistant Principal since September 2020. Prior to his current appointment at CHHS, Mr. Baucum taught middle and high school band for 20 years, most recently at East Hardin Middle School.

Mr. Baucum is a currently a member of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA).  He is also a former member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association where he served as Fourth District Band Chair, Fourth District President, Fourth District Jazz Chair and was named the KMEA Fourth District Middle School Teacher of the year in 2018, 2015 and 2010. In addition, he has served as a guest conductor for numerous Honor Bands and has presented numerous trombone master classes and clinics, most recently for the 2017 KMEA Professional Development Conference where he co-presented on the topic of "Trombone Tips, Tricks and Techniques for the Band Room." 

Mr. Baucum enjoys spending time outdoors, cycling and camping with his family whenever they get the chance.
