The Woodland Family Resource Center (FRC) was established in 1998 as a part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act.  Our mission is to enhance our student’s abilities to succeed in school by assisting students and their families and by developing and sustaining school and community partnerships that promote the following:

Early learning and successful transition into school

Academic achievement and well being

Graduation and transition into adult life

The FRC is staffed by a full-time coordinator who oversees the Center’s daily activities and is directed by an FRC Advisory Council comprised of parents, grandparents, school staff and community representatives.  The Center is funded through a Kentucky State Allocation based on the school’s number of free lunch students.

Families in Training for New and Expectant Parents

First Connections is an Early Literacy Program for parents with children ages 0 – 5.

The First Connections Program

The First Connections Program is offered throughout Hardin County Schools.  The Meadow View Family Place, For You FRYSC, Families F.I.R.S.T. and Woodland Family Resource Centers offer it in the Radcliff and Vine Grove areas.  This parent child program is for families with children 0 – 5 years of age.  First Connections combines age appropriate group meetings with the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Home Visitation Program.  This portion of the county-wide program is collaboratively supervised and financed by local Family Resource Centers in Radcliff and Vine Grove, Kentucky along with a grant from United Way of Central Kentucky.  Jennifer Whited is the Parent Educator associated with the program.

First Connections is multi-faceted.  The Parents as Teachers (PAT) portion of the program is delivered in the homes of the participants that wish to enroll in this portion of the program. (For more information on PAT go to www.parentsasteachers.org)  Then there are meetings for different age groups that have fun circle times, craft projects as well as informative topics for parents.  Topics presented may include some of the following:

School Readiness

Infant Massage

Early Brain Research

Parent/Child Trust

Child Safety

Creative Play

Parent Child Activities

Field Trips

Increasing Learning Capabilities

      In Your Child

The Hearing/Talking

     Connection

Parents with multiple children are encouraged to attend all available classes with all their children.

Our belief is that “A child’s learning style and interests are formed during the first years of his/her life.  Parents are the models for skills such as language development, pre-school readiness, positive discipline, and social interaction skills.  Parents have the primary responsibility for providing the at-home experience that will determine their child’s success in Kindergarten and first grade.”  Our program emphasis is that parents are a child’s first and best teacher and for students and parents, education starts well before Kindergarten.
